The Experience

What is Illuminarium? What is this experience?

From exhilarating natural wonders to enriching cultural moments and beyond, Illuminarium delivers a sensory experience like no other by fully immersing you in the world’s most extraordinary experiences.

The Illuminarium is brought to life through an unprecedented blend of 4K laser projection providing guests a connected and shared entertainment journey, audio beams creating a unique and precise sound experience for each individual, in-floor haptics producing realistic sensations for visitors, such as the ground-shaking with an elephant’s stomp or the low-end frequency of a lion’s roar, and even scent, adding authentic enhancement to the immersive experience. Our cinematic immersion will place you into the middle of the narrative unfolding around you. This is achieved with no wearable hardware of any kind - this is not a 3D or 4D experience.

In WILD: A Safari Experience, you will be transported to the majestic landscapes of the African continent and come face to face with the exotic animals most can only hope to catch a glimpse of on safari.

Strobe effects, gentle floor vibration, immersive sound, and realistic & responsive projection are all part of the experience, but nothing is intended to be frightening or disorienting. The intensity of the various elements will depend on the featured spectacle.

The experience takes place completely indoors within two rooms. Our café offers an outdoor patio that opens directly onto the BeltLine.

Are there live animals in the Illuminarium?

All our animals were filmed on location in Africa and are being projected in a 360-degree environment. No live animals are part of this experience.

How long should I plan to spend in the Illuminarium?

We estimate your safari experience will last approximately 45-60 minutes. We encourage you to continue your safari with our indoor/outdoor cafe where we will be serving local favorites along with authentic African cuisine. The café also offers a full bar, including African beer & wine. You can complete your safari experience with the Illuminarium Shop, where in addition to souvenirs from the experience, we also have artisanal objects we have sourced directly from Africa.

Is there seating inside Illuminarium?

You can move around the experience at your leisure and have free range throughout. There is limited seating to enjoy the safari from a different perspective if desired. The experience takes place in a space of approximately 10,000 square feet – from end to end it is approximately 220 feet.

Do I have to wear any goggles or headphones inside the Illuminarium?

There is no wearable hardware of any kind required to enjoy Illuminarium. Our cutting-edge technology will be all you need to be fully-immersed in the experience.

How long will WILD be featured? Are there other shows?

Seasonal experiences will be offered throughout the year. Following WILD, Illuminarium will premiere SPACEWALK in 2022.

Does Illuminarium offer a nighttime experience?

Join us Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays after dark (8PM-Midnight) for a completely different immersive experience. Illuminarium reimagines nightlife on the BeltLine with a bar unlike any other: enjoy cocktails and tapas in an ever-changing and magically immersive setting that transports you to places like a Japanese night market, an awe-inspiring interstellar nebula, or a luminous reef below the ocean’s surface.

Reservations are available at OpenTable. A $15/pp cover charge will be collected upon entry.

Access

Where are you located?

We are located at 550 Somerset Terrace in the Common Ground complex between TWO Urban Licks and New Realm Brewery on the Eastside Trail of the Atlanta BeltLine. We are walking distance from Ponce City Market and Krog Street Market.

Is there parking at Illuminarium?

We are located on the very busy Atlanta BeltLine - please allow extra time for parking, particularly Friday-Sunday!

On site parking is Valet Only ($3 for Illuminarium visitors with proof of admission presented to valet. Illuminarium does not validate). We recommend you take MARTA or Lyft, particularly if you will be visiting Illuminarium in the evening or on the weekend. There are additional paid public lots in walking distance of Illuminarium:

  • North & Line Public Parking at 385 N. Angier Ave
  • BeltLine Parking next to Kroger at 725 Ponce De Leon Ave NE
  • Ponce City Market Parking at 675 Ponce De Leon Ave NE
What is the recommended age to visit Illuminarium?

All Ages are welcome at Illuminarium. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult, and children under the age of 3 are not required to have a ticket.

While we have realistic projection and loud sounds (like thunder), there are no moments meant to be intentionally frightening. Some experiential aspects of the attraction may be overwhelming for younger children.
If your child is easily overwhelmed or scared, the Illuminarium team recommends you have enough adults in the group to deal with a possible departure of one adult to assist the infant, which requires another adult to remain with any additional children 12 and under.

Illuminarium After Dark is open to 21+ only and valid government-issued ID must be presented prior to entry.

What family-friendly amenities do you provide?

Our Family Restroom contains a diaper changing station and is located in the Illuminarium Café.

Are strollers permitted inside Illuminarium?

Yes. Illuminarium does not offer storage for unused strollers.

Is the Illuminarium ADA accessible?

Yes. There is dedicated parking in the public lot behind Illuminarium with a ramp to enter the breezeway and proceed to the opposite end to our main entrance.

There are no stairs in the Illuminarium attraction, and all height transitions meet ADA requirements. As the attraction is a walking and standing experience, guests using wheelchairs may request support from any Illuminarium team member to ensure they receive assistance in finding a location where their line of sight is not disrupted by others. Illuminarium is committed to assist in these scenarios, although we cannot guarantee the behavior and consideration of all visitors. There is also limited seating inside the attraction. Do you have wheelchairs available for rent?
We are a fully accessible facility, and you are welcome to bring your own wheelchair. No rentals are available.

Tickets

Do I need a ticket to enter Illuminarium?

If you have celebrated your 3rd birthday, you are required to have a ticket to enter the attraction. Tickets can be purchased in advance here.

No ticket is needed to access the Illuminarium Shop or Café.

The Illuminarium After Dark cocktail experience does have a cover charge. Although not required, a reservation is strongly encouraged for the after dark experience. Reservations are available on OpenTable.

Do I need to purchase my ticket in advance?

We strongly recommend purchasing your timed tickets online ahead of time, as this is the only way to guarantee entry for your desired day and time.

How do timed tickets work? What are timed tickets?

Your admission is reserved for the date and time printed on the ticket. Arrive at your specified time and proceed to the main lobby. Our All-Inclusive Experience offers Flexible Entry Time. To learn about our various ticket packages, click here.

What if I arrive later than my entry time?

Late arrivals will be accommodated based on capacity – you may be required to wait until the first possible open time slot. We encourage you to arrive at your scheduled time to avoid any delays. In the event a guest arrives late for the purchased ticket time, the Illuminarium team will make all possible accommodations to offer the guest the next available showing on a first come first serve basis. If unable to reschedule, all unused tickets lose validity upon the closing of Illuminarium on the date for which the ticket was purchased, unless otherwise stated or agreed to by Illuminarium management. Any decision related to extended or altered validity of admissions is wholly at Illuminarium Management’s discretion.

Can I reschedule my tickets to another date/time or upgrade my ticket?

To modify the date and/or time of your ticket, visit your booking portal, Use your order number and the email address used when purchasing to log in, Select the experience that you need to change from the list on the left hand side of the screen, Select your new date/time, Click “Save Changes” at the bottom of the screen. Your tickets will be automatically updated to reflect your new selection.


You may upgrade your tickets at the box office upon arrival to Illuminarium on the day of your visit.

Why does my All-Inclusive ticket only have one time printed on it?
Your All-Inclusive ticket gives you flexible entry for any time in the window you purchased. For technical reasons, only the beginning of that window is printed on the ticket. These windows are 9AM-1PM, 12PM-4PM, 3-7PM. For example, if you purchased the 9AM-1PM window, only 9AM is printed on your ticket, but you are welcome to enter at any time between 9AM-1PM. The safari experience will last approximately 45 minutes.
What is your cancellation policy?

If cancellation request occurs 48 hours prior to booked time, a full refund will be honored.

If cancellation request occurs within 24 hours of booked time, half the purchase price of the ticket will be provided.

Any cancellation request received on the same day as the booked time will not be accepted, and the full amount will be charged with no refund.

Do I have to print my ticket?

No, we can scan your ticket directly from your mobile device.

Do you offer group discounts?

Yes, please visit our Groups page to learn about the benefits of booking groups of 10+.

Do you offer military discounts?
Active Duty and Reserve members of the U.S. Armed Forces as well as Military Retirees will receive discounted admission for next available entry when they present their valid Armed Forces ID card at our Ticketing Counter.
Please note that discounted admission applies to the service member and up to 3 additional family members or guests.
Do you offer gift certificates?
At this time, we do not offer gift certificates.

Miscellaneous

What are your hours?

Illuminarium is open 365 days a year.

The daytime safari attraction is open from 9AM-9PM through July 21 (except Thursdays-Saturdays, where it closes at 7PM), 9AM-7PM from July 21-August 8, and 11AM-7PM beginning August 9.

Illuminarium After Dark runs from 8PM-Midnight Thursdays-Saturdays and serves cocktails and a tapas menu. Reservations can be made at OpenTable.

The Illuminarium Café is open from 9AM-9PM daily and serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. Reservations can be made at OpenTable.

How do I book my corporate event, party or other private event at Illuminarium?

Does Illuminarium offer an educational program for schools?

Visit our Groups page for more information on the curriculum we offer for grades K-12.

Is photography/videography allowed?

Personal photography is allowed, and we recommend turning off your flash for the best photos. No professional photography, tripods, or videography of any kind are permitted.

Is outside food & drink permitted?

Outside food or drink are not permitted in the attraction, in our café, or on the café patio unless specifically agreed to by Illuminarium management. When dining with us, guests are invited to let our team members know of specific dietary requirements or food allergies in advance of ordering.

What items are prohibited at Illuminarium?

Firearms or any other type of weapon (knives, box cutters, nun-chucks, mace, pepper spray, stun guns or tasers, laser pointers or any other potential weapon determined at the discretion of an Illuminarium representative) are not permitted on Illuminarium premises. Fireworks are strictly forbidden.

No bicycles, scooters, tricycles, skate boards, roller/in-line skates or shoes with wheels (wheelies) are permitted on the Illuminarium premises.

Illuminarium welcomes guests using power-driven mobility devices. Due to the nature of the attraction’s general layout, design and available space, the use of motorized equipment like Segways and electric scooters is prohibited on Illuminarium’s premises.

What COVID policies do you have in place?

Illuminarium follows all current CDC Guidelines. Masks are encouraged.

A thermal temperature check will automatically take each guest’s temperature upon entry. Additionally, PureAir ARC Technology is utilized throughout Illuminarium. This is an air purification technology developed by NASA for the International Space Station that is not only able to instantly kill pathogens via UVc light but also provide a continuous disinfection through oxidizing molecules in our air and on surfaces throughout the day.
